Helping Disabled Kids in Costa Rica

The Roberta Felix Foundation is an organization that develops services for handicapped children in rural communities of Costa Rica. Most of these special children have few options in terms of getting the support they need. In addition to this support for handicapped children, we also develop and support programs for children with learning disabilities and for children who live in poverty and we also operate a special education school and therapy center.

We also organize donations and distribute such items as diapers, clothing, food, glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs and many other needed items to the children who are registered in the foundation. The Roberta Felix Foundation also acts as an advocate to bring legal, medical, and dental support to the handicapped children who live in the counties of Aguirre and Parrita. Currently, we assist approximately 150 children with diverse handicaps and their families. With limited resources, we are able to improve the quality of life for the handicapped children in our community. More...

2007 Award for Improving the quality of life of Costa Ricans

The foundation won the 2007 award for improving the quality of life of Costa Ricans. The award is presented by the Defensoria de los Habitantes, a government agency that protects the rights of Costa Ricans with a group of very prestigious educators in higher education in Costa Rica. We were evaluated, interviewed and won the award, thanks to the thousands of people who have helped us. More...

NEW AIR CONDITIONED BUILDING!

The new multi purpose building has a kitchen and a full dining room. In addition it is used for therapy, training, and was designed to be used as a shelter for handicapped people in the event of a distaster. Due to the seismic activity and the extreme weather during the Costa Rican winter, disasters are common in the area. It is equipped with everything needed to house the handicapped when a disaster occurs.
