Oscar Arias visits the Foundation

2008 Our day with the president of our republic, Don Oscar Arias

The president, Mr. Oscar Arias, arrived with our congresswoman , Xinia, the embassador from China and a group of folks from the department store , Importadora Monge. There were also a variety of people from the Casa Presidencial. What a wonderful and memorable day for the children of the foundation and their families. The photos are of the president with Jean Carlo, Rachel and Nichole. There is also a photo of the entire group of students that are attended as fixed students in the school and therapy center. The casa presidencial ( office of the president) gave us some brand new wheelchairs, basketballs and they brought us a gift of art materials from Jimenez and Tanzi , an office supply chain here in Costa Rica. The department store Importadora Monge was kind enough to donate a new stove and giant rice cooker for the kitchen in our new building! They also generously donated a new television and a video game set. Our president, Oscar Arias donated 900,000 colones from his salary as president. Many thanks to our wonderful president for his kind heart.

Award for Improving the Quality of Life of Costa Ricans

The foundation won the 2007 award for improving the quality of life of Costa Ricans. The award is presented by the Defensoria de los Hbitantes, a government agency that protects the rights of Costa Ricans with a group of very prestigious educators in higher education in Costa Rica. We were evaluated, interviewed and won the award, thanks to the thousands of people who have helped us. We want to thank our sponsors, volunteers, the good people of Quepos, the employees of the foundation and the parents of the kids who work so hard at making life better for the handicapped children of Aguirre.

New Multipurpose Building!

The new building is a multi purpose building that has a kitchen and a full dining room. In addition it is used for therapy, training, and was designed to be used as a shelter for handicapped people in the event of a distaster. Due to the seismic activity and the extremem weather during the Costa Rican winter, disasters are common in the area. It is equipped with everything needed to house the handicapped when a disaster occurs.

The building was donated by Roger Evans and Century 21 Real estate. The kitchen equipment was donated by Importadora Monge in a donation arranged by the office of the president of Costa Rica. The building is also air conditioned and therefore an environment that keeps dust from entering. Our location is on a dirt road where dust is a problem in the summer months. This enables children with allergies to attend the center all year.
